I know I'm about three days late on this subject, but I really feel the need to get this off my chest in some way or another. As you may or may not have heard by now, Mega Man Legends 3 has been cancelled. Although it's been three days, the fanbase is still in arms about this. It's an outrage; not only to fans of the Legends series, but the entirety of the Mega Man fanbase. At this point, I think I can safely say that the series is screwed. It's not just because of that game's cancellation; there are other factors, as well. This is, in fact, the second Mega Man game that they've cancelled this year, with Mega Man Universe being the first (no rhyme intended). I'm not going to lie; I was no fan of that game. Not in the least. From the moment I saw the trailer for that game, I almost wanted to give up on the Classic series entirely, and I wished everyday that the game would crash and burn (which it eventually did). That game's cancellation was understandable, since it was a steaming pile of garbage that next to no one was looking forward to. Mega Man Legends 3, on the other hand... There's no excuse for that one whatsoever, considering the fact that the fanbase has waited literally ten freaking years for that game to even come into existence in the first place. That game had a large amount of fan support; several people (by "several" I mean 15,000) have gone through the trouble of designing characters for the game and entering them into the contests that Capcom were hosting, only for them to suddenly pull the plug on it out of the blue. Some time ago, Capcom said that they were going to release a demo on the Nintendo 3DS' eShop Channel, and that would determine whether or not they would continue developing the game, but they didn't even go through with that. First, they tell us that the demo's been "delayed", but then we come to find out that they've canceled the game, without even giving the demo downloads a chance.

Just recently, the made up a BS explanation, saying that there wasn't enough fan support, due to the fact that "only 15,000 people entered [their] contests". Apparently, it's the fans' fault that the game was cancelled. Oh, give me a break. What a load of crap. First of all, the fans aren't the ones developing the game. Secondly, not everyone has the kind of talent it takes to enter and participate in those kinds of contests. Third, 15,000 is a large number, and that does not equal the total amount of people that were looking forward to the game. Like I said before, Legends 3 had tons of fan support; it was being hyped on pretty much every major gaming site there is, and more. That "not enough fan support" excuse just doesn't cut it. I see that as nothing more than a sorry, pathetic copout excuse to justify what they did, and there's really no excuse for it. Especially because of how the Mega Man series has been treated ever since Keiji Inafune left sometime last year. Before then, we had to deal with numerous Mega Man 2 rehashes (Face it: There's just no denying the fact that that game is overrated beyond belief, and I have no qualms placing it at the very top of my "Most Overrated Games of All Time" list). After Inafune left, it's almost as if Capcom's been trying to have as little to do with the series as possible, and it really shows by some of their recent actions. Just recently, there was a large amount of fan demand for characters like Classic Mega Man, Mega Man X, and Sigma to appear in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Capcom even held polls, and those three characters had a lot of votes, only for them to not make it, even as downloadable content. The fans' requests just completely fell on deaf ears. Secondly, like I said before, they've cancelled two Mega Man games so far, both in the same year, and that's not normal. I've never, ever seen a company do that before (other than Rareware, when they ended up getting brought out by Microsoft, but the point still stands), and now the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3. If they would pull the plug on a game like this, which had more fan support than you could possibly imagine, then there's no telling what else they might do in the future, when it comes time to make something like Mega Man X9. History may very well repeat itself yet again.

Well, that's that, I suppose. Feel free to reply, ignore this journal, or whatever. I just needed to get that off my chest.

Hey SolarBlaze. I don't really know what to say, except I don't think you should lose faith in the Mega Man series quite yet. After Super Paper Mario, I was worried that the Paper Mario series was over, but surprise, Paper Mario 3DS got announced, and what about Sonic being playable in Brawl because fans demanded him? Who knows? The Mega Man series might be saved if fans request Mega Man in SSB4, and even though Capcom cancelled MML3, they didn't take away the already existing Mega Man games, so maybe playing them will fill the void. Besides, being upset won't change the fact that the game is still cancelled, so it's best not to dwell on it.

I know these are probably some weak persuasions, but try to hang in there. If you need anything, I'll be either here or the Mario Forums.
